Non-Academic Study of Old Age

Brief, irrational responses to questions about old age and loneliness.
Research in the field of experimental film and video involves observing real people and the environment that surrounds them.
I photograph not those whom people usually talk about, but those who often go unnoticed: the homeless, and individuals navigating the daily challenges of depression and loneliness. In these projects, it is important to me not to speak for my subjects, but to give them the opportunity to tell their own stories—in their own words, at their own pace, and without any imposed answers.
From a child’s letter about their homeland to a person searching for a place to call home amidst the enclosed courtyards of St. Petersburg, the stories vary. Yet, at the heart of each one lies the same aspiration: to look past a diagnosis, a social status, or a stereotype, and to see the human being underneath—with all their unique character, memories, fears, and hopes.
